JUDO
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
JUDO IS ABOUT USING YOUR ENERGY IN THE BEST WAY TO DEVELOP AND LEARN WITH YOUR OPPONENT
If you are the kind of person who thinks more deeply, wants to relieve some of the stress of everyday life and have decided to study Budo (the martial way) then we may be a good fit to study Judo together.

I've studied Judo since I was 11 years old and it has become my 'lens' for viewing the world. From the initial wonder of studying a martial art, through serious competition, to years of teaching, my purpose is now sharing the valuable lessons I've learned.

I offer two types of personal training through judo wellington.nz.

Good Judo is just what it says, with a focus on your own personal goals. If you are interested in defence against weapons or applying Judo in self defence, we can work on that. If you have energy to burn, we can do something even more dynamic. If you want to know the history of the art or techniques, I can provide that too.

The Groundwork Kata and Throwing Kata are the foundational techniques of Judo. This is your chance to do a 'short course' and see what you think of Judo. You may decide to go further and explore more, or not. The Forms of Gentleness Kata (Ju No Kata) covers the very essentials of the martial art and has no falls.

In one on one lessons, you can avoid the stress some people face learning a fighting art in a group setting. There is no need for yelling commands or the formality needed to control 20 students!

The first lesson is free. This means you can see my teaching style and make an informed decision about how well we match for the study of Judo. There is no obligation for either of us. Should our purpose or approach not align, I can recommend some great local clubs, in Judo and other martial arts, which may better suit your needs.

WHAT IS JUDO?
Judo is an Olympic sport and martial art originating in Japan. In Judo, competitors wrestle wearing Judo suits (Gi) and a match is won by throwing your opponent decisively to the ground or pinning them for 20 seconds. A match may also be won by forcing a submission through the use of a strangle or an arm-lock. There is an equal focus on standing fighting (throwing) and ground fighting.
